12-day lodge-to-lodge self-drive trip

It all starts with picking up the vehicle, made easy by the rental company’s comprehensive briefing. The 4×4 is in excellent condition and perfectly equipped.

With our roadbook in hand, we set off on the roads towards the Khwai concession. We quickly got into the swing of things! The lack of signage on site was a little stressful, even if the risk of making a mistake was limited.

Exploring the Delta in the Moremi Reserve to Xakanaxa and the helicopter flight were spectacular, with so many animals and birds. Our camp is a little gem and the experience of nights with animals crossing the camp adds a little spice. We would have liked to stay there.

Then we head for the Boteti River: so many animals! We continue to Planet Baobab with the discovery of the Ntwetwe pan. What can I say… it’s wow! Meerkats, kori bustards (Botswana’s national bird) and even desert foxes.

Then we explored Chobe National Park by self-drive and boat. We were desperate to see buffalo when a herd of more than 200 animals appeared in front of us, it was impressive!

Our itinerary was well planned and paced. Vincent and Julie welcomed us in Maun, gave us good advice and put us at ease about the self-drive.

Botswana lived up to our expectations with the discovery of many animals and also the kindness and goodwill of the Batswana people.

We already miss Botswana…
