So many moments of joy and wonder, few intense moments too, a big adventure and the occasional hassle that goes with it, all while enjoying the comfort of having every stage perfectly planned. We loved starting in the south, with its incredible landscapes, and ending with the animals further north.

Our three best memories: it’s very hard to choose as there were so many unforgettable moments, but I would say:

  • Our very first aperitif dinner at the campsite, with, as always, those incredible sunsets. After 36 hours of exhausting travel and our luggage mishaps, this moment symbolized the start of our vacation, and we could finally relax.
  • The whale that resurfaced two meters away from us, actually “under” us, which we never would have imagined seeing so close and so clearly. A few seconds that we didn’t capture in photos but that are etched in our minds for life.
  • The family of elephants swimming across the Chobe River just a few meters away from us. I didn’t even know elephants could swim. All four of us were speechless at the sight.

Our three most anxious moments:

  • When Camille came within inches of stepping on a snake in Olifantsrus, which we later learned was a puff adder, a rather dangerous snake…
  • Driving in deep sand, especially in the Bwabwata National Park where at times I really thought we were going to get stuck (but it never happened in the end).
  • But above all, the most tense moments were the encounters with elephants, especially in Bwabwata and Chobe.  The dense vegetation can hide them, and several times we realized at the last moment that there was an elephant behind a tree on the side of the road, forcing us to stop the vehicle literally 3 meters away from it.
