One great adventure still remained on our list of African safaris: Botswana. After unforgettable trips to South Africa, Namibia, Kenya and Tanzania, it was finally time to explore these legendary wild savannahs. In April, we packed our gear and set off for the heart of southern Africa, just as the rainy season was beginning to fade. The landscapes were lush and green, the roads sometimes muddy or wet, and the crowds of tourists pleasantly few and far between.
For this trip, we chose a Land Cruiser equipped with a pop-up tent on the roof, an ideal configuration for the season. This gave us the freedom to travel at our own pace and sleep under the stars in some of the most incredible places on the planet.
Our itinerary took us through an impressive list of national parks and wildlife reserves:
- Makgadikgadi National Park
- Nxai Pan National Park
- The banks of the Chobe River
- Savuti
- The Khwai Concession
- The Moremi Game Reserve
Each destination has its own unique character and charm. From the vast salt pans of Makgadikgadi to the predator-rich plains of Savuti, no two places were alike. And in every park, luck was on our side: we encountered lions in each one, as well as countless other animals. No safari disappointed us.
We particularly dreamed of encountering two animals: the elusive leopard and the endangered African wild dog. Botswana fulfilled our dreams. Seeing these rare creatures in their natural habitat was simply magical: a dream come true.
Our hearts are full of gratitude for the experiences that Botswana and Tawana Self Drive have given us. This adventure was everything we hoped for, and more!
