We lived a dream…
We grew up watching Ushuaïa, Operation Okavango, Thalassa… At the time, these fascinating images seemed inaccessible to us. Finding ourselves alone in the African savannah at the wheel of a Land Cruiser was surreal, as it was so similar to our childhood dreams. This trip to Botswana, on which we took our 8-year-old daughter, will remain indelibly etched in our memories.
We will remember the first time we saw an elephant, a giraffe, a hippopotamus, a hyena, and a herd of zebras around a bend in a sandy track, in the middle of tall grass. It evokes powerful emotions, ranging from wonder to fear (sometimes). In contact with wild animals, on their territory, we cannot forget that we are part of nature and that it is superior to us. This certainty was reinforced during a magical night under the stars on the Ntwetwe pan, with the Milky Way and the Southern Cross as our only horizon.
We will never forget the warm but never intrusive welcome we received from the Botswanans, as well as their pleasure in sharing their in-depth knowledge of their environment with us. Special mention goes to Rex and Shadow in Khwai, Stich along the Boteti River, Pelo and Rebecca in Gweta, and Mojos in Kasane.
Thank you to Julie and Vincent from Tawana for their excellent advice and services. We recommend them without hesitation!
