1 month self-drive in Botswana
We dreamed about it. Now we’re doing it. But not alone. If this trip to Botswana was a complete success, it was largely thanks to Tawana, or more precisely Julie and Vincent. For more than a year, we pestered them with questions, requests for clarification, changes to the itinerary, etc… Answers assured by return mail, full of sound advice and suggestions, and all with a smile.
And finally, on September 13, we landed in Bostwana via Johannesburg. Perfect timing (we weren’t in a hurry, that’s the privilege of age), well-equipped vehicles in line with our wishes, campsite bookings respected, what happiness.
And above all, for our first trip to Africa, the animals we had hoped to see were there. Lions
Highlights: meetings with local people (you can’t ignore the importance of water after talking to them), the mokoro ride, Victoria Falls, the first contact with wildlife (seeing a lioness and her cub arrive at the waterhole!!!), evenings in front of the fire in the Kalahari Desert, Chobe River, flying over the Okavango, etc… it’s hard to single out one in particular.
An extraordinary trip that wouldn’t be so if it weren’t for a few mishaps. But then again, Tawana was always on the ball and reacted promptly. The pump attendant makes a mistake and puts petrol in your tank instead of diesel? Within an afternoon, Tawana had solved the problem, and we could continue our journey without wasting any time.
We’re left with photos, memories and, above all, the desire to come back. And thank you for sharing the evening of September 26 with us. It’s a beautiful personal memory.
Thank you Julie and Vincent. Thank you Tawana. You’re the best.
