We went on a two-week trip with three families (six adults and eight children) and three cars. Tawana’s excellent organization allowed us to enjoy our stay to the fullest.
Picking up the cars, advice on hygiene and meals, gas stations, things not to miss… all this detailed organization made our vacation very easy. The vehicles are very comfortable (suspension, seats, automatic transmission) even for five people. They offer all the comforts you could want, with Bluetooth, air conditioning, a large trunk for five suitcases, a refrigerator, 100 liters of water, and five sets of firewood for the campfires we built every evening. Sleeping in the roof tents is very comfortable, and setting up and taking down the tents takes only five minutes.
Botswana is a very welcoming country and you feel at ease there. Life with children aged 7 to 19 was very easy. In a country with no agricultural culture or spices, you can eat like you would in France if you want to. Everyday life on the road is easy, with different landscapes following one after another, animals swarming in some places and scattered in others, requiring you to scan the horizon. The walkie-talkies between cars made the trip more enjoyable, even though we were each in our own cars (“lion on the right,” “elephants at 3 o’clock,” “warthogs on the left,” etc.).
The break from everyday life is complete, and we will definitely do this trip again!
If our experience can help others, here are a few tips:
– Take out additional insurance for loss and damage to the car. We broke a headlight, lost and broke some kitchenware and other items, and we didn’t have to pay anything extra. This gives you peace of mind, as you brush against trees and hit potholes all day long, and it would be a miracle not to lose or break anything.
– Take a good camera with you, as it would be a shame to come back with poor-quality photos.
– If your budget allows, take a flight over the Okavango to see the herds.
– If you still have money left in your bank account, go to Victoria Falls, which is well worth the detour and the two-hour wait at the border crossing.
– Traveling with three families and therefore three cars was very reassuring for driving and great fun for the evenings.
Thank you both for your work and your time in Maun!

Watching the African wildlife at close range without a mass of tourists around is a unique privilege still accessible in Botswana!
