With Tawana… the magic happens in Namibia too!

Initially, we had contacted Julie and Vincent to organize a self-drive trip to Botswana in March 2020. But COVID meant we couldn’t go!

With Tawana’s ultra-flexible and ultra-professional assistance, we rescheduled the trip for December 2020. Unfortunately, the attempt was also aborted, as the airline cancelled our flight to Kasane 72 hours before departure!

Was the third attempt, planned for March 2021, the right one?

Ouch! things aren’t going well: travel abroad is restricted and some countries have been placed on the red list. A little desperate and with 10 days to go before our vacations, we scoured the travel forums and realized that it might be possible to reach southern Africa by taking off from an EU country other than France. As we don’t live too far from Switzerland, we could take off from Zurich and fly to Namibia, where there are no particular restrictions!

Namibia? We went there fifteen years ago, and yes, it’s an exciting alternative. But with just a week to go, we’ll never have the time to find a rental company, plan an itinerary and manage reservations.

But Tawana Self Drive also knows how to organize a self-drive trip to Namibia, even at short notice!

End of suspense: we did indeed get to spend 3 delightful weeks in Namibia. The program included Etosha, Palmwag, Kaokoland, the Skeleton Coast and the Atlantic.

Our favorites:

– The super Land Cruiser supplied by Tawana’s partner in Namibia,

– Etosha at Green Season: at the end of the rainy season, the scenery is totally different: some plains turn into grassland and the animals are less concentrated at waterholes. But the density remains, and every puddle is an opportunity for a beautiful encounter.

– Puros region and Hoanib River in search of desert elephants: a huge WAOUH! The trails aren’t the easiest, and you have to deal with river flooding, but the scenery is breathtaking! What a thrill to be able to observe baboons, giraffes, oryx, ostriches, elephants and lions roaming free in this majestic setting. What a privilege, too, to be able to camp in the midst of such a unique environment! An incredible experience, worth all the 5-star hotels in the world!

Having just returned, we’re recharged and bursting with positive energy. A HUGE thank you to Julie and Vincent, without whom this would not have been possible!

We can’t wait to meet these 2 magicians as soon as possible at their home in Botswana!
